Day 3644: Adapting

Yesterday, as I was adapting to …

  • being back on-call for mental health crises throughout the hospital’s primary care practice,
  • health insurance barriers to my own primary care practitioner’s easy coordination with medical specialists in different facilities,
  • difficulty getting a prescription filled at my local pharmacy,
  • a huge bill for the ambulance that took me to a hospital in Georgia after I had a T.I.A. (or mini-stroke) during my vacation in September,
  • new advice about our months-long shower remodel,
  • technological glitches as I was facilitating two remote therapy groups,
  • more unexpected changes at Twitter, and
  • countless other curve balls in the baseball game of life,

… I witnessed many people adapting creatively to their own life challenges, in my therapy groups and elsewhere.

Do you see adapting in my images for today?

As usual, I appreciate the Daily Bitch’s strategies for adapting.

Here’s what I find when I search for “adapting” on YouTube:

Thanks to all who help with my adapting to every new day, including YOU.

  1. May you hit all the curveballs in your life out of the park, Ann. As for adapting here, my retirement date is set in mid-January and I am continually in the process of negotiating all the (online and phone and real) paperwork needed to ensure all parties on the other end will be handling my new services in life. It’s an obstacle course for sure.

  2. That’s a lots of changes Anne! I hope you can ease your way around these challenges as you have done in the past 🥰

  3. I am shocked and sorry to hear about your huge ambulance bill. Hope the info about the bathroom reno is not scary

So many challenges in one day! Fighting with businesses and facilities (that often don’t quite understand what we are trying to tell them) can be especially frustrating.

  5. I don’t like to see people zero in on one bullet out of a substantial list. But I’ll be that guy, this once, to echo one of your points. – Something needs to be done about ambulance service being a hidden cost, with many ambulance companies not being covered by many insurance companies. Come on, guys. Get together and sign some contracts. And of course, when you need an ambulance, they send whoever, and you don’t have the time, the inclination or the ability to vet them or turn them away and ask for another one. But similar has happened to me. I empathize. It is an issue that needs to be fixed by the parties involved.

    • I also discussed this issue with my Primary Care Doctor on Wednesday. Crazy! We all wish the ambulance companies and insurance companies would adapt to reality instead of gouging us on this needed service.

  6. I’m glad we’ve adapted to recognize the signs of a stroke and deal with them as best we can, but ambulance and healthcare costs in general seem to be a maladaptation.
Also I used to see a cardiologist who with her family celebrated Festivus every year. To quote Frank Constanta, “As I rained blows down upon him I realized there had to be another way!”
