Day 1614: Attachments

My attachments include

  • this blog,
  • my readers,
  • my family,
  • my friends,
  • home,
  • the planet earth, and
  • my therapy groups.

Last night, my therapy group discussed the topic of “Attachments.”  I wrote this:

If you’re attached to easy reading, here’s what I wrote there:

Attachments

What is your personal experience of attachment?

I get very attached to things. Lately, I’ve been working on being less attached. I am probably going to throw out a lot of things in the next few months.

My iPhone is a useful attachment for taking pictures.

I’m trying to lose my attachment to telling myself “I should have known better.”

I’m  very attached to music, including this:

What are your thoughts about attachments?  Please attach a comment to this post, below.

I do not want to lose my attachment to gratitude, so I am attaching this thank you note  to all who helped me attach this post to my blog today and to you — of course! — for attaching yourself here, now.

  1. [sipping] Coffee. Definitely coffee as I read the morning blogs. Enjoy your day, Ann. 🙂

  2. I’ll simply second Maggie’s comment, only changing “sipping” to “gulping”.

I hope those dastardly Minnesotans (sp?) didn’t get any FB attachments.

    • I will attach an explanation to your comment, Ray. My Facebook account got hacked yesterday — not by somebody from Russia but by somebody from Minnesota.

  3. Some physical attachments that must go can remain in the heart and mind forever, I think, Ann.

  4. My family. My two Persian kitty boys, Andy and Dougy, as they are my muses for my blog, for sure! My ridiculously out of control music CD collection that is somewhere between 5000-6000 CDs. I am attached to Western Nebraska, though I am hopelessly progressive politically in a part of the country that voted pretty much 2/3rds of all voters for the current administration. Hmm. I’m sure there are other things.

  5. Here is my attachment, Ann. I’m finally finished with my gardens. Now I have a place to loose myself (again) away from the attachments of this world. Centering in Nature is on my agenda for this Summer. I’ve had a white rapid water course the past couple of years. And good for you for throwing “stuff” out. I have the hardest time doing that thinking, “but what IF I need this …” And then then sentimental edge takes over too … “oh no I can’t throw THAT out!” *sigh* Happy Weekend!!! 🌹

  6. I’m with Maggie, definitely coffee and also your blog Ann. <3
    Diana xo

  7. I am attached, in a good unattached way, to these bright glimpses into your vibrant life as it unfolds!

  8. I’ve been releasing things that I’ve been attached to, it has felt good to let go of items that don’t add value to my life!

  9. There’s a line I try to use whenever I travel: “I know I’ve got a lot of baggage, but I’m seeing a therapist.” I really do my best to travel light because I prefer to not be too attached to things. Obviously though I’m very attached to jokes and have been ever since I was born and looked at the doctor in his surgical mask and said, “Is this a hold-up or are you just ugly?”

  10. I have recently fallen in love with the idea of (because I haven’t mastered it yet) becoming less attached to ‘things’. I admire people who live happily without that attachment.

But there are some non tangible things I will never detach from. 🙂

  11. Letting go of attachment and aversion to things is a big part of Yoga philosophy. I have fun with fellow yogis when we catch each other out … ALL the time 😆

  12. I am attached to many things like my heart pumping my lungs working and my brain allowing me to think why because without these things I would be dead and not ready to be dead yet

  13. You make a very good argument against the old warning: “Don’t open attachemnts.”
    Clever. Clerver (as always)

  14. Mark has nailed it. I would also add that long-time attachments can become physical again – just like before

  15. I am pretty attached to your blog Ann- just sayin’ 🙂
