Day 4561: Difference

Last night, I had a dream about writing a post about difference. The difference between that dream and reality was that no matter how I tried, I couldn’t write it.

Difference is something I think about a lot, so today I looked up difference quotes.

.

What difference do you see in my other images for today?

.

I’M GOING TO CELEBRATE MY MARRIAGE TODAY.

What difference did you notice there?

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “difference.”

.

Thanks to all who make a difference in my life, including YOU!

Day 4554: Harmless compulsions

Some may think of these as concerning psychological glitches, but I think people have harmless compulsions.

My harmless compulsions include looking for mistakes, telling the truth, expressing my feelings, taking pictures of animals, checking multiple times to make sure I’m leaving the house with what I need, waiting before opening delivered mail and packages, counting rabbits on walks with my husband, blogging every day, and assuming I’m not alone in harmless compulsions.

Do you see harmless compulsions in my images for today?

.

Sharing those lists in several places is another harmless compulsion of mine.

Here’s a song I compulsively wrote about harmless compulsions;

.

Another harmless compulsion of mine is collecting many different thank you’s so I can always express my gratitude to YOU!

Day 4505: Coming back

I love spring because of the leaves and colorful flowers coming back all around me.

I can’t wait until my country will be coming back to its senses and electing better leaders.

Can you see why “Coming Back” is the title of today’s post?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “coming back” on YouTube.

.

Thanks to YOU for coming back to this blog, here and now.

Day 4309: Exhausted

As we approach this exhaustingly important USA election, I assume I’m not alone in feeing exhausted.

.

In an old blog post I wrote when I was less exhausted, I remember suggesting that we not worry about the other shoe dropping since “what’s so scary about a shoe?” Well, if the other shoe is an orange, toxic, and vengeful narcissist dropping again on all of us, I am both scared and exhausted.

However, I’m not too exhausted to share my other images for today.

.

Is anybody exhausted by the prospect of Evaluate Your Life Day?

This is what shows up first when I search for “exhausted” on YouTube:

.

I am so exhausted by that exhausted man and I can only hope that enough people aren’t too exhausted to stop him with their votes between now and November 5.

How exhausted are you?

Thanks to all who are here for this exhausted post, including YOU!

Day 4239: Ugh

What do you think “ugh” means?

Here’s how I would use ugh:

Ugh! Our trip through Canada this month is being rerouted because of heartbreaking forest fires.

Ugh! I can’t believe that so many people in the USA support mean, selfish, greedy and vindictive leaders.

However, a lovely young person I know uses ugh differently, as you can see in this text message:

.

Yesterday, when I was scoping out a local selection of greeting cards (ugh! I do that so often), I saw this card:

.

Ugh! Maybe ugh now has two meanings.

However, when I search definitions of ugh online, I can’t find any double meanings.

.

I don’t think that my young friend is annoyed, disgusted or upset with my cats. Ugh! I happen to know she loves cats.

Ugh! I wonder if I should ask her about it?

Ugh! I’m so used to thinking that I might be doing the wrong thing, that I actually had the thought that my friend might say “ugh!” if she discovers this blog post! However, if she does, that might actually be a compliment.

Ugh! That reminds me how I have invited people to take EVERYTHING as a compliment, as a way to combat the negative messages in our heads.

Do any of my images today make you say “ugh”?

.

Ugh! I don’t like Duran Duran, I do love S’mores, and I can’t be lazy today because I’ll be working on my live album of original songs.

Here’s what I find when I search for “ugh” on YouTube:

Ugh! I look forward to your comments, below.

Ugh! Imagine if I forgot to thank everyone who is here for these blog posts!

Ugh! They’re selling Thanksgiving cards in August!

Day 4155: Places to avoid

I hope this blog is not one of those places to avoid for anybody.

For me, places to avoid are mostly unhelpful places in my mind — where my perception is skewed because of past negative experiences. These places predict failure, misery, and pain, despite all evidence to the contrary.

While I can’t totally avoid these mental places, I’ve learned to leave them more quickly, getting to better and more productive places as soon as possible.

Do you see places to avoid in my images for today?

.

I hope the Daily Bitch isn’t referring to my upcoming concerts at the Lilypad in Cambridge.

I can only imagine what I’ll find when I search for “places to avoid” on YouTube.

Places to avoid never include gratitude, so thanks to all who did not avoid this blog today, including YOU!

Day 3826: Letting go

Yesterday, on Let It Go Day, my Coping and Healing group focused on letting go of negative self talk. We started out with a new mindfulness exercise: letting go of any negative self talk for five minutes. This was challenging, because letting go of old, familiar habits takes a lot of practice.

I will be letting go of any negative self talk as I create this “letting go” blog post today.

I’m letting go of any judgment I have about going to bed at 8 P.M. last night.

Here’s the song that comes up for people about “letting go.”

Consider letting go of your reactions to this blog post by putting them in a comment, below.

Thanks to all who are doing their best letting go of unhelpful old habits, including YOU.

Day 279: Fall Photos

I haven’t done a photo essay lately. By “photo essay,” I mean taking some recent photos I’ve snapped with my iPhone and hoping I can link them, somehow.

The structure for this essay will be chronological — that is, I’ll post photos in the order I took them, starting last Tuesday.  And since I tend to be very aware of the seasons, the topic is “Fall.”

Here we go ….

Fall

A Chronological Photo Essay

by Ann

One of my associations with fall is Halloween. When I was a kid, Halloween was my second favorite day of the year.

Last weekend, I bought some Halloween candy:

Image

The fun-sized package pictured above, however, isn’t going to any Trick-or-Treaters this year.  After I came home from the hospital last Tuesday night, that sucker was mine!

Another association I have with fall is baseball playoffs.  And my local team, the Red Sox, are in the playoffs this year.

Image

Here’s hoping the Sox make it to the World Series.

Here’s a photo I took, seconds after the previous one:

Image

Why am I including that photo here?  Perhaps as a visual reminder of the importance of taking the next small step, no matter what the situation.

Perhaps as a visual reminder that photos — and clothing — do not have to be perfect.

Perhaps to show my regular readers that I am physically okay after my hospital stay, since I’m walking my usual walk to work.

More likely, as proof that I still don’t understand how to work my friggin’ phone, especially now that it has a new operating system.

The remaining photos were all taken yesterday, as I took a nice, long walk.  Here’s the first thing that caught my iPhone:

Image

As usual, I like working with groups, no matter what their differences.

I took the next photo further down the same block:

Image

I like the way local businesses cater to the nourishment of humans and non-humans around here.

I took the next photo across the street:

Image

That sign, which is new, seems to indicate that  (1) this trash receptacle is setting a limit and/or (2) some  person is doing the same.

I took the next photo about fifteen minutes later:

Image

That photo illustrates another meaning of the  word “fall.”

Leaves are falling off the trees, even though it’s only early October.  While the colors are beautiful, I’m hoping that I won’t get fed up, too soon, with the cold that’s coming my way.

A few minutes later, I was happy to see a rabbit.  I like seeing rabbits when I’m walking, and lately I’ve been thinking  I might not see any more until next spring.

So I took a photo of that unexpected rabbit, but the photo was really blurry. I could blame the rabbit or my iPhone for that, but what good does blame ever do, really?  Instead, I’ll show you the next photo I took, moments later:

Image

It’s another group!

The next photo is related to the first one in this essay, since it’s a harbinger of Halloween:

Image

Let’s face it — that photo is blurry, too, but I couldn’t resist including it here.

And here’s the last photo I took, on my walk yesterday:

Image

Okay, okay.  I’ll give you this: The fall is beautiful.

Thanks, everybody, for reading today.
