Sarcasm is
- “the use of irony to mock or convey contempt,”
- “an ironic or satirical statement tempered by humor,”
- saying “the opposite of what’s true in an attempt to make someone look or feel foolish,”
- something my son requested that I stop using when he was young,
- difficult to avoid in certain situations, and
- the subject of today’s Daily Bitch Calendar.

Do you detect sarcasm in any of the following statements?
- The people in power care about the rest of us so much.
- Politicians try really hard to keep their promises.
- Everybody in the United States has equal rights.
- The United States citizenry always does a great job exercising the precious right to vote.
- People are so well versed on the real issues that are going to affect them.
- The squeaky wheel not only gets the most grease, it also deserves more attention than the quieter wheels (and the wheels that have trouble being heard).
- Everyone agrees with me and my late mother that honesty is the best policy.
To help you detect sarcasm in those statements, here is “Lie Witness News — 2019 Year End Edition” from Jimmy Kimmel Live!

What are your thoughts and feelings about sarcasm in this age of anxiety?
These days, I am never sarcastic when expressing gratitude (although some people are), so thanks for everything!

Sarcasm has never passed these lips, Ann, I swear.
I so believe you, Mark.
If anyone says to me “Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit” I respond with “but the highest form of intellect.” No idea where I heard it, or who first said it.
I love it!
Just looked it up……Oscar Wilde!
A great sarcastic intellect!
Here’s a quote a propos to our current events: It isn’t over till the fat lady sings.
This is true!
I’m intrigued by the photos you’ve posted over the past weeks of Trump stickers stuck to traffic signs and other public locations. Have there been similar stickers for other candidates in past elections? In this election? I’ve never seen this (other than in your photos). I hope that they wash off in the rain.
I have not seen such sticky stickers before, Maureen. Because they seem impervious to rain and sarcasm, I have been attacking them with my trusty Sharpie and my bare hands. Unfortunately, some of them are out of my reach.
Drywallers have a very nifty kind of stilts
Good to know.
I’m being completely sincere when I say it’s funny to me that written sarcasm doesn’t always go over as well as verbal sarcasm, which may be why I usually take the Daily Bitch messages seriously.
Then again a lot of them seem like they’re meant to be taken seriously.
I take you seriously, Chris, even when you are hysterically funny.
Peer pressure made me do it. I need to get me a sugar daddy. Then I’d know what’s happening in the world ah huh Ann, no sarcasm here when I say you make me think about things from a different viewpoint. Thanks!
Thank you for your viewpoint! <3
sarcasm can be incredibly powerful if people get it, just like satire.
Thank you for another powerful comment, my friend.

I never get upset about anything these days, Ann, but if I did, your blog would always be the perfect antidote.
I’m guessing the first part of your comment might be sarcastic, Lori, but every word is a perfect antidote for me.
You guessed correctly, Ann. 😉
<3
Sometimes sarcasm comes handy, cos some people just need a good verbal beating. LOL! (´∇ノ`*)ノ
Sarcasm is a legal way to beat those people, my friend !
Yes, in Malaysia we have to be careful though. We have some really weird laws.
