Let’s do some definitions of “do the math.”
do the math
informal
make a calculation or come to a conclusion based on the relevant facts and figures, typically with the implication that the result is or should be obvious.
“Did closing thirty beds hurt emergency waiting times? You do the math!”do the math
Loosely means “It’s pretty obvious”
You can have a 20″ TV for $150, or a 30″ for $170. You do the math.

How many definitions were that? Do the math. It’s the same number of photos I took yesterday.

Do the math: It’s the same number of siblings in my family of origin (and my dear sister Ellen gave that math t-shirt to my son on National Cheese Day).
It’s the same number of original songs I’ve written during the past month. My first original song had two verses and my new song “Catastrophizing” has four. Do the math!
Now that we’ve done the math, it’s time to do the music.
I did the math and “You Do the Math” by Junior Brown has 159,553 views, 317 thumbs up, 8 thumbs down, and appears on 0 albums at this writing. Also, Junior Brown’s guitar has the same number of necks as the other math in this post. In my 2nd original song, “Catastrophizing,” the line “I’ll break my neck” refers to my own neck and also the neck of my ukulele.
Please do the math and leave a comment, at least to belatedly celebrate National Cheese Day.
Now it’s time to do the thanks to all who helped me create today’s post and — of course! — to YOU.

I do like the T-shirt. I started working at Lloyd’s Insurance in 1960. We worked with mechanical calculators. One task involved adding sums in £.s.d., requiring us to decimalise them for the machine. I could add these figures quicker in my head 🙂
Do the math, Derrick: I like all your comments because of the way they add up.
I always much preferred to do the English than the math, Ann. Congratulations on Catastrophizing yourself into a quick second song!
I prefer the English in your comments, Mark.
I didn’t realize yesterday was National Cheese Day, although I had some cheese so that counts as celebrating. That reminds me of Charles de Gaulle who’d really done the math when he said, “How can anyone govern a nation that has two hundred and forty-six different kinds of cheese?” I don’t know but I’d like to try every one. In the meantime though I’m steadily working my way up to trying every cheese mentioned in Monty Python’s cheese shop sketch. Out of forty-five total I’ve tried seventeen. Doing the math makes getting the remaining 28 a little daunting.
Do the math, Chris: every one of your comments is cheesily great.
I was always good at maths at school and still can do basic math in my head which has nothing to do with this post but thought I would say that
Your good comment has everything to do with this post, Joanne. Do the maths.
