I’ve been noticing a lot of dot dot dot’s lately, in tweets and elsewhere…

I just did a google search about dot dot dot …
An ellipsis (plural ellipses; from the Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis, “omission” or “falling short”) is a series of dots (typically three, such as “…”) that usually indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning.
Ellipsis – Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EllipsisThe three dots tattoo is a common prison tattoo that represents “mi vida loca,” or “my crazy life.” It’s not associated with any particular gang, but with the gang lifestyle itself. This tattoo is typically found on the hands or around the eyes. Jan 8, 2016
I don’t feel like I’m intentionally omitting a word, sentence, or whole section, but maybe I am unconciously …
I’m not even sure what my original meaning is, except to share some thoughts and some pictures …
I don’t know if anybody noticed, but there were three dots in those six pictures …
The three dots tattoo represents “mi vida loca” …
… and vida does seem particularly loca these days.
I wonder what the Russians thought about Ricky Martin …
Sometimes I feel shy about asking for comments …
… but I never feel shy about expressing my gratitude to all who help me create these posts and to YOU.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Delightful post! I didn’t know about the prison connection, but I love to use the dot, dot, dots. I like the thought of more to come… that’s not spoken. Happy day! : )
Thank you for this delightful and lovely comment …
I hate to leave you hanging, Ann … So I won’t end with a total ellipses of the heart. I will think hard before typing those three dots together from here on out today, my friend.
You never leave me hanging, my friend … Thank you!
Just when I thought you could never come up with another topic after all these posts…
I miss you …
An ellipsis may be intentional but I’ve also seen it used to indicate lacunae, the unintentional gaps that are mostly found in ancient texts ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh to Aristotle’s Poetics. The nice thing about both ellipses and lacunae is they always seem to me to say, “More to come,” and also they give the reader a chance to respond. A line attributed to C.S. Lewis is, “We read to know that we are not alone,” and even the empty spaces can make us feel that…
With you, Chris, there’s always more wonderful things to come ….
Don’t really know what I want to say except… so nice to see you here this morning. I’ve been offline savouring precious time with my two month old grandson… 🙂
… Wonderful!
Many people add a fourth dot to represent a period if the missing words are at the end of a sentence.
I usually use ellipses at the end of sentences to indicate that my thoughts have trailed of. In that case I don’t add a period because my thoughts trailed off before I could finish…
I’m trying to think of way to express how much I appreciate you ….

A Leonard Cohen song comes to mind, “Closing Time” … And the men, they dance on the polka dots …

Thanks for the Leonard Cohen, Ivor …
Always my pleasure, haha, I think there’s a Leonard Cohen song for every topic.
That’s amazing …
“… and vida does seem particularly loca these days.” You made me laugh! You sure did speak a truth here. Ha! I wasn’t familiar with the dots as a gang tattoo. I always wonder how different markings are established in the first place. And it’s wonderful to be reminded that music pulls us all together and softens international tensions. The Russian people love our American artists. Music isn’t political. Thank goodness we can say that, at least. 🙂
Thank goodness you write such thoughtful comments …
