Rather than have a tantrum, let’s just define it:
tan·trum
noun
an uncontrolled outburst of anger and frustration, typically in a young child.
“he has temper tantrums if he can’t get his own way”
synonyms: fit of temper, fit of rage, fit, outburst, pet, paroxysm, frenzy, bad mood, mood, huff, scene; (informal) hissy fit
“how can you tolerate his tantrums?”
How can you tolerate his tantrums? Good question. How can we tolerate anybody’s tantrums, including our own?
For example, I sometimes have tantrums when somebody uses the word “pet” (as in the definition above) for anything other than this:

I’ve also been having tantrums because Oscar stepped on my computer this weekend and changed the way photos are displayed, making it harder for me to blog every morning.
Can anybody tell when I’m having tantrums? I’m not sure, but I told people at work yesterday that I woke up mad, mad, mad. Was I having a tantrum when I did that? Actually, I think sharing my feelings prevented me from having a tantrum.
Was I having tantrums when I took these photos?
Okay, now I’m having a tantrum because AS USUAL, I FORGOT TO RESTART MY COMPUTER BEFORE WRITING THIS POST AND THAT’S THE ONLY WAY I CAN ACCESS MY FRIGGIN’ PHOTOS FROM YESTERDAY! AND WORDPRESS ISN’T SAVING MY POSTS AS I’M WRITING THEM THESE DAYS SO THIS IS SUCH A !!&$##!!??!#^&!! PAIN!!!!
Excuse me. I’ll be right back.
Any tantrums here?

My boyfriend Michael (whose meals are good antidotes for tantrums) has lots of stories about tantrums he’s witnessed in restaurant and hotel kitchens.
Are James Taylor and his son Ben having tantrums in “Angry Blues”?
Feel free to have tantrums in a comment below.
Outbursts of gratitude and fits of frenzied thanks to all who helped me create today’s post and — of course! — to you. Without my readers, I’d be having tantrums every day.
Duck! If nobody gets hurt (physically or emotionally) tantrums have their place, Ann.
Oh, we all have those days Ann.
That helps me feel better, Miriam! <3
I sometimes have tantrums in traffic Ann and also when my computer acts up! ♡
Diana xo
We have a lot in common, Diana! <3 xxoo
Ooh! That James and Ben Taylor number was a great tune to get me started this morning. It’s a long day because I have a CT scan of my lungs after work. I work almost 30 miles from where we live, so my sweetheart is driving me in, coming back home and then picking me up about 2:30 to take me to the radiology place. It gives a us more time together and him with a mission for the day. Thank goodness we have Priuses! Sorry about your computer. I did that once, and suddenly everything on my screen was really small. I don’t remember how I fixed it, but I did. It had something to do with sliding my finger along the touch pad, if I recall. Good luck with It!
Ooh! Good luck to you, Sunny! <3
Oh, I’ve had a few WordPress influenced tantrums myself. Please don’t have a tantrum if I am not commenting as much as usual. Slammed at work these days.
You don’t inspire tantrums. Much the opposite. Thanks for checking in.
I think my psyche is having a tantrum. It keeps wanting to get up after my wake up time — thus, limiting my time to visit places I love to go in my mornings, like here.
I think it’s time to put that tantrum in its place and get back to regular programming!
And yup — I’ve had a few technology induced tantrums — they never seem to get me what I want! 🙂
My tantrum this morning got me what I wanted — a comment from you! <3
The word “tantrum” seems onomatopoeic, but the Oxford English Dictionary merely says “Origin unascertained.” It adds that the first recorded use is in 1714, but in a book published in 1666 “tantrum appears as a Welshman’s mispronunciation of anthem, but apparently has no connection with this word.” Stereotyping and discrimination, which many groups, including the Welsh, have suffered throughout history, should provoke a tantrum.
I connect with your comments, Chris. <3
Everyone has his own tantrums !! 🙂 No one is perfect.
I think Michael’s remedy is excellent . I approve and applaud ! 🙂
Love <3
Michel
I applaud and approve your comment with love, Michel. <3
Reeling in my tantrums is one of the main focusing points for me at the moment. Since I’ve been doing spiritual work, they seem to have increased in frequency, but seem to be decreasing in duration, so that’s a plus! 🙂
This comment is a plus, Amanda! Many thanks.
When I have those few curse worthy moments, I catch myself. And remember how thankful I am for those many more moments when I have been blessed.
-Alan
I remember how thankful I am to be blessed with your comments, Alan.
We all have tantrums they are normal and a way to release stress but some go on and on and not know when to give it a rest
Your comments are also great stress relievers, Joanne. <3
I seldom have a tantrum because I loathe the loss of control. But…I have OFTEN allowed myself after debating it….to be controlled fuming. 🙂
I have uncontrolled admiration for you. <3

It’s always nice to know other reasonable adults have tantrums, too. Somehow, just mentioning it does help, doesn’t it? Sometimes you just have to acknowledge a bad day. Hope tomorrow is better!!
It’s always nice to read your reasonable thoughts, Lisa! <3
I no longer have tantrums. Sh*t gets broken, my sh*t. I do get pissed off. Which means I will cry because I don’t want to say what I REALLY feel, cause I’m a nice person. My brother on the other hand recently threw his bedside table into the hall when the hospital nurses ignored him. He said he felt absolutely drained afterwards. And then there were the 3 guards who came to calm him down. And he was only there for a checkup. I had a good laugh. Don’t hurt anybody now!!
Many thanks, Elva, from another nice person. <3
I’m so with you on PC tantrums. My main problem is that I don’t know whether it is them or me.
It’s not us, Derrick! It’s them!
I like the reminder that I’m not responsible for other people’s feelings. I am dealing with an on line dating site scammer I think, I am getting ready to go Duck all over his head. I think it will feel good. I confess I was also a bit harsh with airport people after travelling 24 hours. Catnaps and drooling don’t cut it. Now I’ve had 2 sleeps in my own bed and things are coming under control. I hope your day and computer get better and better.
Your comments get better and better! <3
I’m sure I get one whenever I’m in a long queue. And I’ll always smile when reading your posts.
Your comments and your posts are good cures for tantrums, Alex.
Thanks 🙂
Tantrums loose their power as they travel through cyberspace, your morning tantrum didn’t really get to my emotions as it would have face to face.
Face to face, Leland, I’d say yours is one powerfully great comment.
