Day 1016: Scary

It’s scary how much I have to do when I return to work after a three-day weekend.

It’s scary how much of my work is helping people let go of unhelpful and habitual fears.

It’s scary how sure I was that I’d written more than two previous posts with the word “scary” in the title (see here and here).

It’s scary how difficult it is to know what’s truly scary and dangerous, sometimes.

It’s scary how many scary things there are around here, in October.

Only one of those scary things pictured, above, momentarily scared my boyfriend Michael yesterday.  Would it be scary if I asked you to guess which one that was?

It’s scary how many associations I have with the word “scary,” including ….

… Count Floyd and  SCTV‘s “Monster Chiller Horror Theater.” It’s scary how close that spoof is to a real Ingmar Bergman film.

It’s scary how much scary music there is on YouTube.  Here‘s my scary choice for today:

What did YOU find most scary in my blog today?

Scary thanks to all who helped me create this scary post and to you — of course! — no matter what might be scary for you, right now.

  1. The hand coming out of the bush looks dramatic. There’s also like a bloody foot next to a brick wall (I think it’s a foot on the first picture)

  2. It’s scary that it doesn’t scare me at all that you are also a fan of Count Floyd. My introduction to SCTV was stumbling across “Dr. Tongue’s Evil House of Pancakes” and laughing until I hurt. It’s also scary to me that Joe Flaherty wasn’t featured in the documentary “American Scary” about the real horror hosts that ruled UHF stations on late nights and weekends. Count Floyd seemed less like a parody and more of an appreciation for the likes of Ghoulardi, Vampira, and my personal favorite Sir Cecil Creape.
It’s scary how much more I could go on about this, and some people find it scary that I still carry a Commander USA Fan Club card in my wallet, but it’s a reminder of the Commander’s message to remain an all around good guy forever.

    • I don’t think you need a reminder to remain an all around good guy forever, Chris. Thanks for sharing John Candy, pancakes, and another helping of Count Floyd.

  3. Squeals! I love all of this scary stuff! Of course the orange snowballs scared me the most. Those are my mom’s favorites and she can’t have any right now. XOXO – Bacon

  4. I took a course in Bergman’s films…for 3 hours a week, I submerged in sadness. Leave Ullman…much easier to take. ☺

  5. Did the glo-balls scare Michael? They scared me!

I love how your neighbourhood seems to embrace Halloween.

    • I love how your comments always embrace whatever’s going on in my post. The glo balls scared me, too, but they didn’t scare Michael.

  6. The fluorescent orange Hostess snacks…and that I love them all 🙂

  7. The orange Hostess cakes, that much non-food on a grocery shelf is scary for sure!

  8. I’m guessing it’s the first picture where it looks like there’s a sawed-off foot lying next to the headstone. I’m guessing (hoping) it’s a rock!

  9. Its scary because my mind got diverted and reminded me that I practice yoga because I have difficulty letting go!

  10. The scariest thing about this was it reminded me I am at the end of a 5 day “weekend” and I must return to the working world myself!

  11. Ann,
I found not too much of it to be frightening. I’m a lifelong fan of horror movies: Dracula, Frankenstein the Wolf Man.
But, I do think Mike’s afraid of the scary cakes.
    Halloween’s around the bend.
    -Alan

  12. If Michael is how I imagine him, he was scared of the Hostess Glowballs, Ann. I sure am!

  13. I will try to guess!

  14. The spider on the tree!

  15. There are many scary things in the world, some like spiders, snakes, and big black dogs scare me silly so do horror movies just saying

  16. I do love these Halloween decorations. Someone in my neighborhood has a spider that nearly covers the whole porch. Kind of like Frodo’s spider. No idea what scared Michael, but I’d like to know!

  17. I thought it was the spider in the tree. Thank goodness it was not one of those hopping, barking spiders like they have in Australia. We have a neighbor that goes all out for Halloween. His front yard becomes a total ghoul fest with glowing eyes and moving figures. It’s great. It irritates my husband because he says it makes the neighborhood look tacky, but I say it makes the neighborhood look alive. It is certainly more interesting than the bushes cut into geometric shapes and the perfectly manicured lawns (well, except for ours which is not manicured or perfect).
