It was white out and verrrry cold out yesterday, in Boston USA.
Just what I needed, as I returned to work after the flu.
That’s Winston, at the garage where I park for work, describing how they treat the flu in his home country of Trinidad and Tobago.
“First, some vodka. Make a tea from garlic, ginger, cloves, and spice. Drink that all down at once. Then, sweat the fevers out.”
No fevers, yesterday. Just frozens. While I waited for the work shuttle in New England’s world of white, Winston said some words about his world, which included “warm” “blue,” “ocean,” and “fish.” Some words today about Trinidad and Tobago, from Wikipedia:
Climate
The climate is tropical. There are two seasons annually: the dry season for the first six months of the year, and the rainy season in the second half of the year. Winds are predominantly from the northeast and are dominated by the northeast trade winds. Unlike most of the other Caribbean islands, both Trinidad and Tobago have frequently escaped the wrath of major devastating hurricanes, including Hurricane Ivan, the most powerful storm to have passed close to the islands in recent history, in September 2004.
Record temperatures for Trindad and Tobago are 39 °C (102 °F)[17] for the high in Port of Spain, and a low of 12 °C (54 °F).[18]
I’m going to leave some white space here, as I try to think of reasons why I might prefer my home over Winston’s, these days:

I’ve got nothing.
Yesterday, I saw white out everywhere, so far from Winston’s home.
In the light …
… and in the dark.
When I was home, I saw the white of the moon.
One more dark-and-light question, from the white board in my office:
How about a white song, to send this white-out out into the wide wide world of WordPress?
(Annie Lenox sings “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” dressed in white and black, here at YouTube.)
The original, by Procol Harum, is in white, black, and color here on YouTube:
Anything you want to declare here, in black and white?
Many white, black, blue, and other colorful thanks to Winston, to Annie Lenox, to Procol Harem, to all those who skip the light fandango, to people everywhere who leave or stay at home (for their own black-and-white or shades-of-grey reasons), and to everybody who helps me blog every day, no matter how white it is out there (including YOU, of course).

I love Winston’s cure for the flu. Most likely works I would guess, the vodka kills off the invading germs, and the ingredients in the tea are all good for the immune system! I was thinking how hard it must be for someone to adjust to a climate like Boston’s after coming from Trinidad, so hard. I love your photos with your shadow in the snow banks- and the moon glowing so brightly. The center one looked like Penny’s shadow to me.(but for her hair) Stay warm and keep in mind there should only be 6 more weeks of winter 🙂 Meanwhile it is supposed to snow here tomorrow and Monday 🙂
I love your empathy, appreciation, insight, and caring. Thank you for seeing Penny the Pen in the picture; I haven’t seen Penny since I went to the doctor on Friday. I miss her! I hope she’s safe and I hope you are, too!
Thanks Ann- just waiting on more snow and frigid temps 😀
Hi-Blogs by other authors pale in comparison! Great pics. Great song too. What about “In the White Room” (my favorite by Cream). By the way, every time I see the camel I think of this story: A friend was taking a photo of a camel but was unaware of using the wrong lens. When the photo came back all that appeared in the photo were the camel’s nostrils!” It makes me laugh anyways. Have a great day Ann!
Mary! Thanks for the comment beyond compare. And I love the story about the camera and the camel. And Mark, below, posted your song!
Now thats a lots of snow!! Some epic phots there.
Love todays song 🙂
Keep cosy and well!
Thanks for being epic, Val! The snow is behind me for the day, and I’m cosy and well.
Wow! You definitely got a lot of snow. Here I was complaining about winter’s blanket. We’re covered in summer cotton compared to your white and woolies!
I too love today’s song.
Stay cosy and warm and flu-free!
I’m feeling cosy under the comforting blanket of your warm thoughts, Louise.
Man Boston sure got a snow dump, we’re seeing it on the news every day here in Calgary! Stay warm and safe Ann! Perhaps we should have a WP meet and greet in Trinidad? What do you think? <3
Diana xo
You’re getting daily doses of Boston in two places, Diana! I love the idea of a meet and great in Trinidad. See you there! xo
Well, coming from the Caribbean myself, I prefer to be in the U.S., because I like the change in seasons, which you don’t get in the Caribbean, although “white” can perhaps be “too white”? But white is also purity, and light, as this song implies:

Probably not the kind of “white” you’re having there? Oh, shucks, perhaps some other time…
As always, Maria, you provide an amazing and valuable perspective. Many thanks for the wonderful music and thoughts.
You’re welcome! The images you posted are really good too! They look so surreal. Your blog is always so much fun for me. Hope you start feeling better soon!
I am definitely feeling better, Maria!
Great photos! And don’t worry — hold on — see how you feel in three months — it will have been worth the white, er, wait…
The spring IS beautiful, Claudia. Thanks for reminding me about that with this great comment. I’ll try holding on, without white-knuckled worries.
I hope the flu is receding now, it seems very soon to have gone back to work! But maybe better than being at home and feeling peri-Birthday blues. I love the café tables in a sea of snow!
The flu is becoming more of a memory every day, Hilary. I feel fine at work. As usual, I love your comment.
Too. Much. Show. Oh, Ann, how you pushed through the white and got great pictures.
Back at the big daily, when we used the photo studio to shoot our original Syracuse band music video series, we used to call it the White Room. But the walls got sort of dirty. Almost Cream.

Thanks for pushing through the white and coming out with Cream! Never. Too. Much. Mark.
Hi Ann, I see what I am coming home to.see you Mon.
Hi, Mary! Are you sure you want to come home, now that you see what’s here? I look forward to seeing you on Monday.
I think if you have lived through “white out” winter time through your life I think you start to appreciate the place that do not have “white out” season and more of “warm up” seasons.
I’m definitely appreciating the idea of more “warm up” seasons. Thanks for warming it up here!
So much snow
So much truth.
Sorry to be posting late. Hard day.
I made a casserole as much like Michael’s. As I could today. It went well with rain, I think.
You are beautiful.
You are smart
You have a friend who can’t remember the other things on your list but likes your singing and your snow photos.
I have an excellent friend. I’m very sorry you had a hard day.
If I blew out candles today and made a wish, I would wish for this: that you have many, many easier days ahead.
So much snow here as well but when the sun came out it was beautiful by the lake. I’d post a photo but I don’t know how to do it in the comment section. Wait, I’m going to try something……./Users/carolcormier1/Desktop/IMG_3876.JPG ……. I don’t know if that worked. I’ll post some of the photos on my blog tomorrow. Maybe you can see them there.
I will look for your beautiful pictures, Carol!
I’m pretty sure that didn’t work. Sorry.
I appreciate your attempt, Carol.
Here is how I post pictures in comments. I’m not saying this is the best way, mind you …
First I post the comment. Then, I edit it. When you are in the editing mode for a comment, there’s a button that says “img” which prompts you for the link information for the photo. (Usually, I also need to upload the photo to my Media Library in order to get the link.) Then you get prompted for another piece of information, where you need to give the photo a name. That should do it!
I’m going to follow my own procedure to post another snow photo from the last few days:
Beautiful!
I feel ya, Ann! We awoke to several more inches of snow here in NH this morning, and it’s still coming down hard. It’s beautiful, but a bit overwhelming at times…
I feel you, too! Thanks for the sharing the beauty and the overwhelming-ness. I can relate to all of it!
