Because I have been traveling around Switzerland on my own, I’ve been noticing ice breakers.
Ice breakers on this particular trip have included:
Have you been here before?
Where are you from?
What do you think of American politics?
Do you like music?
Do you have pets?
Do you like cats?
Is this the right train to _____?
Isn’t this beautiful?
Does this seem real?
What does this mean?
Are you afraid of heights?
Can you safely walk on all this ice at The Top of Europe with regular shoes?
Can you see ice breakers in my images for today?
Jimmy the cat has shown up at my hotel! I like bread declarations. I finally found spinach in Switzerland! Ice breaker: Do you know how much vitamin K is in this?A stranger grabbed my phone and said, “Let me take your picture!” She turned out to be a trauma therapist from India!
I sent this to my husband Michael and said, “Here’s your snow globe from Switzerland.”From the Sphinx Observatory Terrace I could see where I had been standing a few minutes before! The butter at Glacier Restaurant was in the shape of The Eiger!
The Daily Bitch is an excellent ice breaker.
Thanks to all who are here for this ice breaker post, including YOU!
On this solo trip to Switzerland, I have experienced many changes for the better, including:
more peace of mind,
less concern with my putting myself out there,
letting go of perfectionism for myself and others,
radical acceptance of what is, and
no fear of heights!
Can you see changes for the better in my images for today?
Changes for the better on the train!Changing for the better with this view from my room in Grindelwald!
Changing for the better by recording and sharing videos like this one!Changing for the better by not being afraid of heights!Changing for the better by asking if I could share some songs here tonight! Changing for the better with my heart while seeing world-wide recognition for my old Dr. Paul Zoll.
.
On National Skyscraper Day, I’ll be changing for the better as I’ll be exploring different kinds of skyscrapers in Grindelwald.
Thanks to all who are changing for the better, including YOU!
I’ve had many wonderful days in my long life but yesterday was especially wonderful. I walked around Lucerne, saw the Lion Monument, took an incredible trip across beautiful Lake Lucerne and up and down the spectacular Mt. Pilatus, and then attended an astonishing concert by the amazing pianist Hayato Sumino.
Can you see wonderful days in the images I’m sharing today?
.
I wonder if my wonderful days in Grindelwald will include a refrigerator in my room.
I look forward to listening to Hayato Sumino during many wonderful days ahead.
.
Many thanks to all who share wonderful days with me, including YOU!
Even though I am here on my own, I’m loving doing new things in this beautiful new-to-me country.
Here’s something new: I slept on the plane last night! Also, when I showed up early for my hotel in Lucerne, it was ready! Those are both such wonderful things when you are new in town.
Do any of these images show that I am new in town?
Because my flight was delayed, I got to briefly join the weekly ZOOM call with my sister-in-law and my son. We talked about taking past pictures flying out of Logan when we were all going to be new in town. Because I’m new in town, I thought “walk: 59 m” meant “walk 59 minutes” (instead of meters). I’m new in town, so I’ll definitely snap pictures from a train. I love being new in town in Lucerne!
.
I think the Daily Bitch has the perfect advice on what to do when you are new in town.
Since I am new in town, I don’t know if I’ll figure out the perfect way to spend two days in Lucerne, but that’s okay.
Whenever I am new in town, it helps to communicate and connect with wonderful people like you!
Yesterday, I went to Tufts Medical Center, hoping to find some kind words regarding my 3-year quest to ease the annoying and unkind staticky sounds I hear in my head when I speak. The doctors there shared some kind words about my reporting skills, my earrings, and a possible diagnosis.
.
I appreciate the hope in those kind words.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for kind words.

When I was a young girl dealing with heart problems and multiple hospitalizations, I took great solace in fictional characters. I learned about resilience, resourcefulness, adaptability, integrity, grit, kindness, and humor from my parents but also from fictional characters.
Yesterday I had two conversations with the fictional character ChatGPT about fictional characters.
One conversation was about losing my perfectionism about my upcoming trip to Switzerland. I told ChatGPT that it helped me to think I would survive even if I showed up in a foreign land like Marcus Brody did inIndiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Here’s what ChatGPT said about that:
.
The second conversation was about which fictional characters I resembled. I told ChatGPT I hoped I was like Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice but wondered what other ones it might suggest.
.
What fictional characters do you relate to in my other images for today?
.
I really relate to the fictional character of The Daily Bitch.
Thanks to all the wonderful nonfictional characters who are here for this blog about fictional characters, including YOU!
I had the luck to have a short work day, so I could leave the house to do errands for my upcoming trip to Switzerland.
I had the luck to head back into my office at 5 PM to have a Zoom call with a colleague and friend.
I had the luck to walk to the back of the office to retrieve my off-work laptop and to step into some water on the floor, which caused me to look up at the ceiling and see a huge stain and slowly leaking water.
.
After freaking out about my bad luck, I had the luck to find a plumber who showed up at night.
Eddy has had the luck to look like Pierce Brosnan now and like Tom Cruise when he was younger.
.
Eddy also had the luck to live in Venice for many years, which I had the luck to visit in 2025.
With some luck and lots of skill, Eddy figured out the source of the leak and stopped it for the night. (Before Eddy showed up, we had turned off all the water in the house but we didn’t have the luck to stop the leak.)
We’ve now got a fan blowing on the damaged part of the ceiling …
… and with luck we’ll be able to repair that easily.
Michael and I have been discussing the luck of this happening at this particular time before I leave for Switzerland, since he never goes into that room when I’m not here.
Do you see luck in my other images for today?
With any luck, the plumbing and ceiling repairs will not cost millions of dollars.
When I went to YouTube just now, I had the luck to immediately find this:

I also have the amazingly good luck to have wonderful readers like YOU!
