  1. I still love ‘for what it’s worth’ buffalo springfield and ‘I won’t back down’ tom petty

Songs: Can’t believe no one has mentioned “Ohio” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. “Four dead in Ohio.” “We will remember the names of those who died on the streets of Minneapolis.” Anthems of our time.

What other people say: Well, I guess “they” are calling “us” AWFUL, as in Affluent White Female Urban Liberals. So I say that we own that, except in my case, not being affluent, I change it to Awesome WFULs. Or Awesome Wuffles. An ex used to complain about my driving. Ten years younger than me with no valid license. “You drive like an old lady,” he would say. “I AM an old lady,” I would reply, which sometimes shut him up.

Other other people are my friends on Facebook (mostly IRL friends) who almost don’t count as “other people.” My son might count, as he has quite different opinions than I have which might be interesting except they seem based on the concept that if you comply you’ll be okay. AWMUL. Affluent White Male Urban Libertarian.

Sorry for always writing so much. Give me a topic and I assume you want a term paper.

    • No need to apologize. I am always interested in what you have to say, Barbara. And people did mention “Four Dead in Ohio.”

Sorry. I must have missed it. And just after replying here, I got Jamelle Bouie’s newsletter, so it occurred to me that I might have mentioned him as well as Kareem Abdul Jabbar and John Ganz and Charlie Sykes – etc., etc. – as other people with something valuable to say.

  3. I forget where I heard this, maybe it was a cartoon, but someone is being shown around Heaven and they’re told, “Stay off that cloud. It’s Mick Jagger’s.”
It wasn’t written as a protest song but “Get Off Of My Cloud” sounds r like one to me.
