Day 4474: Are we having fun yet?

I am having fun in Italy, even though I’m very aware that many people in the world are not having fun.

.

Even though I didn’t get much sleep last night waiting for Senator Cory Booker to break the record for the longest floor speech ever in the Senate and for the returns from the special elections in the USA, I still plan to have fun today on our last full day in Italy.

Are you having fun yet?

Thanks to all those who help me have fun, including YOU.

  1. two great things happened here yesterday: Corey Booker broke the record of a man who fought against civil rights years ago, and The Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate won over the richest man in the world

  2. You’ve earned it, Ann.

    1. Fun game for riding a train through Tuscany: check out the hilltops. I suspect most of them once held hill forts which are now villages, some quite well-known.
    2. I agree, as usual, with the Daily Bitch
    3. Swings! I forgot about swings. Next time I’m near a park … oh how I love to go up in a swing, up in the air so blue, oh I do think it the pleasantest thing that ever a child could do
    4. Stray thought: Renaissance painters were clearly capable of painting children’s faces – check out the cupids. So why does the baby Jesus always look like a disagreeable old man? I suspect that perhaps they felt it was sacrilegious to portray Jesus with a baby face? Jesus could not be shown to be cute. He was always serious and sometimes judgmental. I once laughed out loud in a museum before a mother and child because the child, I swear, looked just like Jimmy Cagney! The woman next to me was not amused.

Isn’t Christ supposed to come back and judge??

Not to get too stereotypical here but, the running joke in Judaism is that their stomachs are colicky. “Hasn’t been able to digest a decent meal in weeks”. My wife’s family (Ashkenazi Jewish) fits this stereotype. So I imagine Jesus was just colicky.

    • I had fun reading these comments, Barbara and Stan.

Should you stay in Italy? Hey, it is where my wife wants to live. So go for it.

What is still fun? Alone time with my wife. Baseball games with a beer and hot dog. Fly Fishing. A day at the beach.

  5. I’m glad you’re having so much fun in Italy you’re thinking about staying—though there are other good reasons why that would be on your mind. Still swings and roundabouts, as they say in a country to the north of where you are.
I’m sorry about the passing of Val Kilmer but the movie Top Secret! is still fun with all its silly sight gags.
