Day 3759: Giving a F*ck

As usual, I’ve been giving a f*ck about

  • climate change,
  • injustices,
  • the health and happiness of those I love,
  • my therapy groups,
  • blogging, and
  • helpful books, including this one:

Giving a f*ck might seem more uncomfortable than not giving a f*ck, but I agree with Dr.Wills that it f*cks things up if we don’t accept our feelings.

Actually, Dr. Wills makes a distinction between emotions and feelings — he writes that “emotions come from bodily reactions that are activated by neurotransmitters and hormones. Feelings are our conscious experience of those emotional reactions.” He also states “Feelings are emotions plus a story.” I’m now giving a f*ck about that distinction, because it matters.

For example, I’m giving a f*ck about our cat Joan’s eye problems and how they don’t seem to be improving despite our faithfully administering eye ointment twice a day. When I look at Joan’s eyes, I feel the emotions of fear, sadness, and anger in my body. Then, I notice I’m telling some familiar stories about medical situations that include helplessness, distrust, and and worry that people are making mistakes and innocents are suffering. I can’t control the emotions but I can control the stories I tell about them.

And because you might be giving a f*ck about Joan, know that we are taking her to our giving-a-f*ck vet again this week.

Do you see giving a f*ck in my images for today?

On Nothing Like a Dame Day, the Daily Bitch seems to be giving a f*ck in her own way.

And if you’re giving a f*ck about National Haiku Poetry Day, here’s a haiku about how I’m giving a f*ck about taxes:

April 17th,

Will my payments be in time?

If they aren’t, I’ll live.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “giving a f*ck”:

As always, I’m giving a f*ck about thanking people who help me blog every day, including YOU!

  1. I give a h**t that it’s Patriots Day in your part of our world today, Ann. I also give a d*mn about Joan getting better, too, of course.

  2. I give lots of f*cks about victims of gun violence, especially the survivors, of which there are several more today. I give all the rest of my f*cks to folks in places affected by wars and other disasters. I wish all those f*cks did more good than the act of giving them seems to do.

  3. thanks for including my Tweet in your amazing blog
    *Angeliki Greek in NYC …

  4. Debbie T

I wonder if Bat Appreciation Day applies to baseball or to flying creatures.

  5. I’ve never met Joan and yet I give a f*ck about her and her eyes, at least in part because she’s brought you so much happiness and she deserves so much in return.
And I’d like to use my voice to get more people to give a f*ck about bats. They’re wonderful creatures that do so much good. This is the time of year when I can step outside at dusk, look up, and see bats circling overhead, and I know they’re eating the mosquitoes that would otherwise be biting me.

  6. I’m caring about Joan’s eyes, and know she is suffering in silence, but luckily you are her family and you will do your best to get her what she needs, and that is certainly something and I can say for that both Joan and I give a f*&%

  7. Giving a f*ck
    Struck
    A beam of light

    Joan rocks!
    Orange tabby
    Wagging tail knocks

    On furniture, wooden floors,
    Resonant
    Aloft

  8. Joan is lucky to have you and your GaF vet

I recall that when you first got Joan she required a lot of care for an intractable eye infection. I guess eyes are her vulnerable point. And she is fortunate that you are very observant and take her in for medication.

  9. Because you might not go back to read it, I’m copying my response from yesterday to your news about Aaron’s decision:

Hey, That’s fantastic news, Ann! A great school and a lovely city, also not too far from you. My niece and her husband live in Halifax. One of them is a CBC reporter and the other is a pediatrician. I hope that he enjoys his PhD program, and enjoys Canada. Two of my kids have moved to the states since I began reading your blog, and of those one has become American and has had two american-born kids there. And now we are welcoming your son up here, at least for a few years, and I think we are very lucky to have him choose Dalhousie.

  10. Sometimes I wish I could turn off the part of my brain that desperately does give a f*ck about way too many things! But I guess it’s better to give a f*ck than to NOT give a f*ck. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to use a word I don’t actually use very often. It felt good! 🤣
