“You’ll be missed” is something my husband Michael says when we’re discussing the frustrations of dealing with bureaucracies and bad customer service.
Here’s an example:
Me: My drum teacher didn’t show up for my first lesson and when I contacted several people in the company to complain and explain what I needed, nobody did anything! I’m never going to use Guitar Center again.
Michael: You’ll be missed.
That phrase, for me, sums up the frustration and helplessness of dealing with uncaring entities. They’re not going to miss me, at all.
And that hurts. Why won’t they miss me? Is there something about me that doesn’t matter? Would Guitar Center miss me if I was somebody else, like a more effectively assertive man or a known musician?
No matter where I’ve worked, I’ve gone out of my way to let the customers/clients/patients know that they WOULD be missed if they decided to leave. So why can’t others do the same for me?
Well, as a wise person I miss once told me, “Don’t expect you from them.”
