Day 2670: Urgent

Despite my dealing with many urgent situations over the last two thousand, six hundred and seventy days (but who’s urgently counting?), I’ve never published a blog post with the title “Urgent” before.

Well, there’s no time like the present and these can seem like urgent times, although “urgent” is not an adjective I’ve heard about these times we’re living through together. I HAVE heard people describe these times as

  • challenging,
  • uncertain,
  • difficult,
  • strange,
  • weird,
  • anxious,
  • upsetting,
  • frightening,
  • scary,
  • terrifying,
  • troubling,
  • painful,
  • confusing,
  • unexpected,
  • unprecedented,
  • stressful,
  • crazy,
  • crazy-making, and
  • surreal.

Yesterday, during these challenging, uncertain, difficult, strange, etc. times, we brought our cat Oscar back to the Urgent Care Veterinary Center for a blood pressure test and to get medication. His situation didn’t seem urgent enough for an ultrasound of his digestive tract yesterday. However, if he ever throws up dried blood again,  we’ll urgently schedule that test as soon as possible.

Anything urgent in my pictures from yesterday?

People in my Coping and Healing group yesterday talked about many topics — urgent and otherwise —  including the anniversary tribute to Prince , which I had missed. So, after our trip to the Veterinary Urgent Care Center, Michael, Oscar, and I watched “Let’s Go Crazy: Grammy Prince Tribute” On Demand last night, including this performance posted on YouTube by BoDerekSmith:

Here’s an urgent performance of “Baby I’m A Star” by the original, one-and-only Prince.

What feels urgent to me, during times like these, is finding and sharing moments of joy with others.

It’s not urgent that you express your thoughts and feelings about this “Urgent” post in a comment; however, it’s definitely appreciated. Urgent and emergent thanks to all who help me create these blog posts, including YOU!

Day 2668: The Light of Life

During dark times like these, we all need the light of life.   The light of life, for me, includes sharing thoughts, feelings, and images with you, every day.

Do you see the light of life in any of my photos from  yesterday?

Last night, Michael and I were reminiscing about how our anxious, social-distancing cat Harley has also been described by veterinarians as “fretful” and “kind.”

And kindness is the light of life.

Then, we danced to a Townes Van Zandt song that has been a light of life for Michael:

Thanks to all who have been the light of life for me, including YOU.

Day 2667: Luck and Magic and Every Good Thing That Can Possibly Happen

Yesterday, when I was counting on luck and magic and every good thing that could possibly happen, I saw this at our local supermarket:

These days we all need luck and magic and every good thing that can possibly happen (although it’s sometimes hard to say what those things might be).

Can you see luck and magic and every good thing that can possibly happen in any of my other photos from yesterday?

img_2912

There was luck and magic in every good thing that Michael happened to cook last night, including those CARROT FRIES.

This comes up when I search YouTube for “Luck and Magic and Every Good Thing That Can Possibly Happen”:

I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend, I’m lucky to have been where I have been, and I’m lucky to have readers like you!

Day 2666: What’s hard to say?

Yesterday, when I was facilitating an online Zoom meeting with other group therapists, I asked people, “What’s hard to say?” after sharing my poem “Hard to Say.”

Hard to Say

Some things in life are hard to say,

Like “I want you to go away.”

Or “Despite what you did, I forgive you, okay.”

Or “I need you, my love, to stay.”

For me, I find it hard to say

A different kind of communiqué,

Two words you’ll see in a candy display,

Ferrero Rocher.

Ferrero Rocher, Ferrero Rocher.

That gets stuck in my mouth along the way.

Ferrero Rocher, Ferrero Rocher.

So easy to eat and so hard to say.

Ferrero Rocher, Ferrero Rocher,

Those chocolate orbs wrapped in gold lamé.

Whether I’m home or going away.

So easy to eat and so hard to say.

© Ann Koplow, 2019

What’s hard to say is

  • what people really thought about that poem,
  • when this pandemic will be over,
  • how much chocolate I’m going to eat during this pandemic,
  • WTF is going on in the world, and
  • when we’ll all feel safe enough again.

It’s hard to say what I loved most about the charming 2012 French movie “La Fée (The Fairy), which I watched yesterday, so I’ll share these quotes from reviewers:

“Its appeal is … in watching people who have devised their own original style of comic performance and have taken it to a rare level of refinement.”

If you like Tati-esque japes, Francophone clowns Abel, Gordon and Romy should be just up your alley.”

“It’s simultaneously a very knowing and strangely innocent film.”

“A little bitty movie with a great big heart that is nearly impossible to resist.”

“It’s often a lot of fun with some dance numbers thrown in.”

It’s hard to say what would be better, for me,  than “a lot of fun with some dance numbers thrown in.” I also loved that somebody who was granted three wishes found it hard to say what his third wish would be, even when “I want us to be safe!” was an obvious choice to me.

What’s hard to say about these images I captured yesterday?

IMG_2911

It’s hard to say why our cat Oscar tried to steal Michael’s pasta primavera, which was completely vegetarian.

What’s hard to say about this dance number from “La Fée”?

What’s hard to say is how I’m going to express all the gratitude in my heart, here and now.

Day 2662: One Day at a Time

Even though I’ve been doing this blogging thing one day at time for two thousand, six hundred, and sixty-two consecutive days, I’ve never before written a post titled “One Day at a Time.”

One day, at a time when twelve people were doing a remote Coping and Healing group online, many talked about taking the coronavirus pandemic one day at a time.

IMG_2827

These are all the other images I captured one day, at a time:

Can’t sleep ?  Consider taking these days one MOMENT at a time.

In one day at a time, here and now, I will be:

  • Doing individual therapy online,
  • Facilitating another Coping and Healing group remotely,
  • Watching a taped episode of “A Late Show with Stephen Colbert,“
  • Taking Oscar to the vet,
  • Taking photos for this blog,
  • Eating a home-cooked meal prepared by my husband Michael,
  • Conducting a Zoom Board Meeting of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy,
  • Doing my best to let go of stress, anxiety, and fear,  and
  • Taking it all one moment at time.

One day at a time earlier this week, I saw this online article “Museum Asks People to Recreate Paintings with Stuff They Can Find at Home, Here Are the Results.”

I enjoyed those recreations one at a time, including this one:

Here‘s Gloria Estefen with “One Day at a Time.”

I look forward to reading your thoughts and feelings about this one-day-at-a-time post  one comment at a time.

One expression of gratitude at a time to all, including YOU.

Day 2661: PTSD

People who regularly read this blog might know that PTSD can stand for

During this age of anxiety, PTSD can also stand for

Plague Times Stress Disorder

Pandemic Terror Stress Disorder

Almost everyone I know has some form of PTSD, including me.

Here‘s something that’s been helping people deal with PTSD: Some Good News with John Krasinski:

I don’t know if this is a sign of PTSD, but I can’t make it through any episode of that wonderful show without crying.

Day 2659: What’s the title of today’s post?

Five hundred and sixty-three days and posts ago (but who’s counting during these strange times?), I created and published a post with the same title as today’s.

Today’s post COULD be titled Day 2659: Stay Wicked Fah Apart.

fullsizeoutput_43c0

It could be also titled

  •  Day 2659: Social Distancing is Working
  • Day 2659: When will things return to normal and what will that look like?
  • Day 2659: With daffodils and magnolia trees in full bloom
  • Day 2659: The rites of spring
  • Day 2659: Clouded
  • Day 2659: A hard truth
  • Day 2659: No one really knows
  • Day 2659: Let’s keep playing!

  • Day 2659: Let’s Go!
  • Day 2659: SLOW

IMG_2739

  • Day 2659: Caution

  • Day 2659: Sheer Compassion

Looking at all the photos I took yesterday, you might have your own ideas about what the title of today’s post could be.

Day 2656: Waiting for other people to join

Yesterday morning, while I was waiting for other people to join a virtual work meeting, I snapped this photo of my computer screen:

IMG_2674

These days, I’m waiting for other people to join

  • together in global efforts to save ourselves and our planet,
  • any safe, healthy, healing, and anxiety-reducing activities available to them,
  • my Coping and Healing groups online,
  • me in wishing  others a Happy Passover and Happy Easter this week,
  • me in wishing my dear friend Jeanette a Happy Birthday,
  • the present moment, rather than worrying about the future or regretting the past, and
  • each other in looking at all my other photos from yesterday.

We’re waiting for other people to join us in a more typical Passover Seder next year. In the meantime, I couldn’t wait to partake of Michael’s amazing cooking last night.

Now I’m waiting for other people to join in watching this bit by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco about joining his first Passover Seder …

…  this “Happy Passover!” musical greeting from the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra …

… and this “Passover Songs Mashup – Dance Spectacular! with Elliot Dvorin and the Key Tov Orchestra from the days when it was possible for other people to join each other in public spaces :

I’m waiting, with other people like David Eisen, for a return to times like those.

I watch this every year to get into the Passover mood…5 years running strong! And, boy, do we need this uplifting spirit this year. God willing things will be back to normal in 2021/5781!

Now I’m waiting for other people to join in expressing their thoughts and feelings in comments, below.

Finally, waiting for other people to join me in being SO grateful for another day.

Day 2596: Best Gift Ever

What is the best gift ever?

Is it

  • sweets,
  • flowers,
  • clothes,
  • jewelry,
  • a book,
  • art,
  • music,
  • words,
  • comfort,
  • a pet,
  • friendship,
  • kindness,
  • love,
  • home,
  • the Earth,
  • the sky, or
  • pictures?

Is the best gift being happy together?

For me, the best gift, here and now, would be a comment from you.

Finally, I hope you accept my gift of gratitude.

Day 2589: 02/02/2020

Today is

  1. Groundhog Day,
  2. a palindrome date (the numbers are the same backwards and forwards), and
  3. my 67th birthday!

In 2018, I wrote a song titled “Shameless Appeals for Applause” which starts out

I’ve made it to age 65,

Nothing gets in the way of my passion and drive,

I was born with heart problems but I’m still alive.

I wonder if I need to rewrite that opening?  If so, not today.  Today I’m going to

  • watch if the groundhog sees his shadow.
  • think about the return of spring in the midst of winter.
  • spend the day with my eminently quotable husband Michael who recently said, “If you’re going to learn something, you have to not know it first.”
  • enjoy a new production of the musical “Hair.”
  • enjoy not having to color my hair.
  • get a free meal.
  • watch for this Super Bowl commercial, which mentions my hometown:

  • share my latest photos with you.
