Day 4745: Mood music

Today’s blog title is “mood music” because

  • My son Aaron, my husband Michael, and I spend our evenings together sharing favorite music with each other,
  • We saw the movie Marty Supreme yesterday and Michael’s only criticism of it was that he thought the music didn’t fit, and
  • I asked this question on Twitter last night:

.

Last night Michael shared this song:

.

I shared this song:

.

And Aaron shared this song:

.

Aaron said that I should listen to that Moondog album, because some of those songs remind him of the songs I’ve written, which put me in a very good mood.

Here are the rest of my images for this mood music post:

Here’s the music I hear when I think about Tick Tock Day:

Thanks to all who are here for this mood music post, including YOU!

Mood Music: Recorded back-to-back songs on their first release in 1980, I give you The Fascist and Joe McCarthy’s Ghost by the Minutemen.

Don’t preach their structure, their society
    Perverted ideas of reality
And words like freedom, they come an’ call
And words like hate, and war, and all that’s lost
    I can’t follow a man on a white horse
Who’s in control, they all look to course
    Tyranny is the real word
Voices and opinions are never heard
They all work, they’re the working mass
They all work for the ruling class
The State relies on the working man
They praise the party and the fatherland
They all reel to the party elite
    All enslaved to the Fascists

Can you really be sure of the goddamn time of day?
Can you take the dirt from the fist of a foreigner?
Are you gonna’ fight when they call out your number?
    Can you toe the line?
Can you repeat what you’ve been told?

    Can you bite the bullet?
    Can you see the enemy?
    Can you point your finger?
    Can you prove your loyalty?

These songs were recorded before Reagan, but have so much relevance today. I am not sure what it is about the holidays that brings out the punk in me. Maybe it’s because I was in HS during the Reagan years, and that is when Christmases really fell apart; I saw what the world really is.

I am not a New Yorker. But does anyone else experience nostalgia for experiences you have never had? This has become one of my favorite songs to share every Christmas.

  3. Music is such a big part of my life. I love live music, but will take a radio on a drive or background music from Amazon or Spotify. Music says it all. No matter what mood you’re in!

  4. One of the pleasures of driving is I still listen to old fashioned radio stations in the car. At home or at work I can choose songs to go with my current mood but it’s nice to relinquish that control sometimes and let someone else’s picks shape my mood.

  5. nice music Anne! <3
