- nature,
- nutritious and delicious food,
- humor,

Now I need to leave for a therapeutic ferry ride into Boston so I can facilitate a therapeutic group.
What is therapeutic? Expressing gratitude, every day.

for me, it is finding peace and joy in tiny, unexpected things and places
Thanks for bringing peace and joy to this place, beth.
I had a few black moods when I was younger, and when I did my daughter would follow me around the house singing Bob Marley’s “3 Little Birds.” My initial response would generally be, “Everything is NOT going to be all right. Everything SUCKS!” but she would persevere until I was singing it with her and we would collapse laughing on the couch.
I don’t get those moods anymore (much less stressful life) but if I need to relax, I rely on books, puzzles, and podcasts. The Rest Is History generally cheers me right up. Then, on reception of the next bad news, I can exclaim, as my two favorite historians do on occasion, “Crikey!”
Crickey, my friend!
Therapy: Fly fishing for me. Connecting with nature. The animals. When I lived in WA State, and I was just telling this story at my nephew’s wedding, I drove out to a part of a river and parked. I put on my waders and had all my stuff ready to go. I walked down the embankment to the stream. I tied on a fly and made a cast. I felt like someone was watching me… So I turned and looked back up the bank to my car and there was a mountain lion. I simultaneously had a sense of awe and fright. I did not stare but I watched for a moment until it turned and walked away.
In my fly fishing travels aside from the fish, I have seen: bear, deer, elk, cougar, eagles, owls, otters, and fox. Deer and otter so close I could almost touch them.
Therapeutic music: Depends on what I need to therapize… West Coast jazz, classical, rock… all has a place for therapy in my mind.
Thanks for all the therapy in that comment, Stan.
The Newport Aquarium has an indoor otter exhibit with an opaque glass ceiling and stone. It’s bright and loud—all sound echoes and watching the otters play is exciting. The next room is the jellyfish exhibit with burgundy couches and carpet and the only light comes from the tanks where the jellyfish swim in endless circles. Parents tell me it’s always a relief to get to the jellyfish. I think it must be therapeutic.
Your comments are very therapeutic, Chris.
Songs I listened to on the radio when I was younger soothe me, Ann.
You and me both, Mark.
