Day 4407: Healthy Relationships

Today’s Daily Bitch Calendar is about healthy relationships.

.

Healthy relationships do take work and I understand why they sound exhausting to the Daily Bitch.

However, unhealthy relationships are MUCH more exhausting, so I’m very grateful for my healthy relationships, especially during unhealthy times.

One of my healthy relationships is with my husband, Michael. He is staying mentally healthy with 24-hour, 7 days-a-week news blackouts. Before the 2024 USA election, with its unhealthy results, part of our healthy relationship was commiserating about the news. In order to maintain our healthy relationship these days, I need to restrict my conversations with him and use other outlets (like this blog) where I can discuss my reactions to the news.

Do you see healthy relationships in my other images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “healthy relationships” on YouTube:

.

That reminds me of something I often share about maintaining healthy relationships: The secret to life is three things — Show up, be gentle, and tell the truth.

What are your thoughts and feelings about healthy relationships?

Thanks to all with whom I have healthy relationships, including YOU!

  1. nothing like a healthy relationship, were you are able to just be yourself and accept the other’s self.

  2. Good for Michael, Ann, knowing what he must do to stay sharp.

I have learned to keep my opinions of my son’s opinions to myself – for the most part.

  4. I like your secret to life! So true! if everyone did those 3 things, the world would be a much nicer place!

  5. Have any new conversation themes emerged over the dinner table since Michael banned talk about the news?

I think Michael’s approach to the news is healthy for someone who suffers from anxiety or dread, and there have been a few days recently where I just put pause on looking at the news. That worked out very well for me and the world did not suffer at all.

    • We talk about the cats, the weather, our home, friends, the video game he is playing (Civilization), my work, movies, TV shows, books I’m reading, and the delicious food he cooks. And the world keeps spinning. Of course, I appreciate all your conversations with you, Maureen.

  6. As you well know, healthy relationships aren’t always perfect — there are times when you plain wonder. But that’s always a flash and you know there’s no place else you would rather be. All life is work — why not work together?

  7. My writing group was cancelled this week but I think of one of the group’s rules: all criticism should be in the form of a sandwich. Start with something positive, put anything critical in the middle, and end with something positive.
I think that’s helped maintain the healthy relationships of the group.
