Day 4085: Parody of the Future

Last night, after we went to several highly automated, touch-screen-dominated, and hard-surfaced establishments at a local mall, my husband Michael said, “These places seem like a parody of the future.”

I love the phrase “Parody of the Future” although I’m not sure I can explain why. We make up the future, so how can there be a parody of our own imaginings?

As usual, Michael makes me think, laugh, and appreciate my past, present, and future with him. And I predicted the future last night by telling Michael, “That’s my blog post title for tomorrow.”

Do you see a parody of the future in my images for today?

.

Last night I dreamt that our beloved cat Joan climbed up on the roof of a very high building, was grabbed by a hawk who embraced her in the air and then flew away with her in its talons, and as I was yelling, “the hawk has Joan!,” she fell from the hawk’s grasp. I woke up, relieved that Joan was okay, and now I’m wondering if that dream was a parody of the future.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “parody of the future.”

.

Thanks to Michael, Joan, and all who help me deal with the future (parody or otherwise), including YOU!

  1. I hope your dream was just a bad nightmare, not a parity of the future!

  2. Not to harp on and on about TFG, but you all have read his plans for his presidency, right? And the plans of his pals and co-conspirators? I would call these plans, in themselves, a parody of the future.

  3. you must have seen into my future, because today I saw that same shirt at tj maxx, except that it had cats on it. perhaps your dog version was a parody of my future

  4. Several years ago I learned the term “paleofuturism” to describe visions of the future that are more retro than realistic—like The Jetsons. I like Michael’s “parody of the future” better, though, since it better describes the world we live in where there’s a growing technological divide driven by wealth.

  5. I have never been to a places as automated as the one you and Michael visited, but I love the term he coined, parody of the future.

Your dream about shouting when the hawk carried off Joan reminds me of your blog post from a couple of days ago, in which you worried about being heard. It seems that the hawk in your dream heard you! I hope that Joan landed safely.

  6. Kaitenzushi and cute bubbas! Can’t top this!!
