When I was several years younger than I am now, an old friend whom I had know for ages told me that he and his therapist had been discussing emotional age. My friend asked me, “What do you think the average emotional age is?”
I thought about my experience of most people’s emotional ages and then tentatively guessed, “7?”
My friend was delighted with the “accuracy” of my guess but really, can emotional age be measured? And how did his therapist get this information? Also, what emotional age was I if I was so pleased about being “right”?
If you search the internet for “emotional age,” there are lots of tests for measuring it, although I doubt that the average test result is 7. Also, there’s this definition:

Can you tell my emotional age by the images I am choosing to share today?

Thanks to all who are here for this emotional age post, including YOU!

pre-teen I would guess
A good age, beth.
Happy to see so many fellow octos on here today! We should form a group. LOL!
Anyway, my emotional state these days/years has been preternaturally steady, and I’m not sure if that is due to my advanced maturity or if it is the result of a daily anti-anxiety pill. Even in these less than halcyon days, I don’t even get mad. The most I can summon up in response is a heavy sigh, with a muttered “of course they did.” At least I no longer get panic attacks – lord knows how many of those that little pill has helped me avoid over the last decade or so!
I’m so glad you are comfortable in this age, Barbara!
About 10 – which is really useful, as it’s the age of the MC in my children’s series.
Great, Annabelle! 💕
I’m more interested in the “listening age”, though that can be as hard to measure as the emotional age. Based on my listening I could be five or six hundred years old, or just a few months.
Thanks for listening, Chris.
