Day 3793: It’s not the end of the world

“It’s not the end of the world” is something I like to say to myself and others in response to the very common cognitive distortion of catastrophizing.

It’s not the end of the world if we

  • make a mistake,
  • say the wrong thing,
  • have lapses of memory,
  • don’t show up for something,
  • don’t get what we want, or
  • lose somebody (although that can feel like the end of the world).

Of course, if too many of us do nothing to save our endangered world, that could mean the end of the world in the future. However, it’s not the end of the world today, even if today is End of the World or Rapture Party Day.

It’s not the end of the world if I have only a few images to share with you today.

.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “it’s not the end of the world.”

.

It’s not the end of the world and I’m grateful for that and for you!

  1. I love the photo of a cart with flowers in it. Is that your cart?

    • That’s our cart in Home Depot yesterday, where Michael and I were buying flowering plants for our home. If we did choose the wrong plants, it’s not the end of the world.

  2. Remember when we are talking about the end of the world, we mean the end of our world. The end of the planet will not come until the sun explodes or whatever. In the meantime, the planet will just keep rolling along, whether any of us are still here to document the years or not. But if we want a human world to continue, maybe we should think about what it means for a human world to survive in a world that may become more difficult to endure. (thinking of writing about this for my website soon, so practicing a few thoughts on you 🙂

  3. those flowers bring me hope. I love many different flowers but my favorite is a bouquet of wildflowers.

  4. Pretty flowers make the day better, Ann.

  5. It’s not the end of the world when surrounded by African daisies (Osteospermum ‘Blushing Beauty’) or Mandevillas.

  6. It’s impossible for me to settle on just one flower, but I love reading the comments from others. One of the better aspects of getting older is realizing that very few things in our day to day experience land in the “end of the world” column. 😉
