Day 3770: Stories we like to tell

As a therapist, I listen to stories that people like to tell. Some stories are curative; others are habitual retellings of internalized toxic beliefs.

A story I like to tell is that people are capable of change, growth, and healing, no matter what awful experiences they’ve had.

I expect I’ll have stories I like to tell from my vacation in Europe next week. The last time I took a trip, I certainly had stories (see here for one of them).

Do you see stories we like to tell in my images for today?

The Daily Bitch likes to tell fascinating stories.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for the stories we like to tell.

I look forward to reading the stories you like to tell.

Thanks to all who help me share the stories we like to tell in this blog, including YOU!

  1. I love to tell the stories of everyday little happenings

  2. Thank you for the thousands of stories you’ve shared with us here over the last decade, Ann, through your great mind. And here’s to those still stirring!

  3. They are naming a building after your cardiologist???? That is wonderful!

  4. I love to tell the story of a Polio survivor, a second-class citizen in her own birth country. The girl in her twenties left that country for America. She became a hair model for Revlon, a CEO in the Corporate field, a mother of two, and a widow at 36. She found herself with no family to support her but overcame pain and challenges. She became a proud multiple college degree holder and later smiled when her own two kids became professionals/good people. The woman is now in her mid-60s, she looks back and says “I have come a long way…” That’s a small drop of my personal story. That woman is me.

  5. Ask me to tell a story and I just don’t know where to stop. But here is something I wrote some time ago about the importance of stories: “There was an old TV series that started with the words, “There are a million stories in the naked city.” It’s a dark, naked universe too. And it’s filled with stories. Loren Eiseley suggested once, in a book I read so long ago that the memory of one tiny piece of it is all that remains, which claimed that if human beings had a point, a raison d’etre’, any reason to get out of bed in the morning at all, it was to serve as the historians of nature. We remember. We tell the Stories.” https://www.barbarasbookhouse.com/The-Story-Is-Everything

  6. I’m on my third reading of “The Untethered Soul.” I seem to get more from it each time! I hope you have a good weekend, dear Ann.

  7. I see stories everywhere in everything and in everyone. I think of O’Henry who responded to a claim that there were only four hundred people in New York worth knowing by saying there were four million—the number of people in New York at the time. And we all have many stories to tell so even that number was low when it comes to stories.

  8. The story of being everywhere, ‘You were not just you’
‘You were so many things, so many people and places’
