Day 3864: Not being there

I’m realizing that I have a fear of not being there for people. Not so much a fear of people not being there for me — which I got used to as a child in the hospital during the dark days when parents weren’t allowed to stay with their children.

I’m aware of the fear of not being there for people, here and now, because

  • Today is Tweetless Tuesday on Twitter (or X) and I didn’t tweet (or X) yesterday about my intention to join the one-day boycott of that place.
  • I always tweet at least three times a day (just like I always blog here once a day) no matter where or how I am.
  • Because of this past consistency I worry that people will worry about me not being there.
  • I don’t like to cause people any pain.

This reminds me of the Doritos Cure that my manager came up with years ago about my fear of not being there for patients immediately if they needed me. Because I was imagining them painfully and anxiously waiting for me to get in touch with them, she proposed that I imagine them being less pained and able to do things other than just waiting for me, like eating Doritos. (If you want to be there for the blog post about the Doritos Cure, you can find it here.)

While I’m not being there for people on Twitter today, I’m going to imagine my 30,000 followers eating Doritos (or maybe something healthier) rather than anxiously waiting for me to show up. Also, my not being there for one day doesn’t mean people will decide I’m unreliable and therefore not worth following.

While I’m not being there for people on Twitter, I am being here for my blog followers with my images for the day.

I believe this book focuses on women stressing out about not being there for other people.

My not being there for people on Twitter today means that if they want to know about today’s holidays, they’ll have to find those out for themselves. And they can!

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “not being there.”

That reminds me about Pee-wee Herman/Paul Reubens not being there for us in this realm any more.

Here’s Paul Reubens/Pee-wee Herman being there.

What are you thoughts about this not-being-there post? And thank you for being there.
