Day 4287: Ann and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

I had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day yesterday, as I had a bad night’s sleep worrying that I wouldn’t be able to start my car to bring it very early in the morning to the local dealership, found out before I left that I couldn’t connect my computer to the hospital’s Epic system, finally got my car to start, discovered at the dealership that the problem was a known flaw in the starter button that had been covered by a special warrantee until last month, paid a ridiculous amount of money for the repair, got home and realized the car wasn’t actually fixed when it wouldn’t shut off properly, spent an important meeting talking on the phone with Information Systems trying to connect my home computer to Epic, scrambled to talk to all my patients anyway, found out I couldn’t connect because of another friggin’ form I had missed filling out, managed to get through to the car dealership and was told that the mechanic had mistakenly installed the wrong starter button in my car, got horribly triggered by all this because so many machines weren’t working and I depend on a machine (cardiac pacemaker that needs to be replaced next week) to live, brought the car back in, was told the repair would take hours, got home (without my car) just in time to facilitate my two online therapy groups, and then witnessed other people courageously dealing with terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days.

In group, people talked about this book …

…

and then when I had retrieved my car after 8 PM and had a very non-terrible, non-horrible, very good meal prepared by my husband Michael,

.

… I asked this question on Twitter:

.

It’s a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for countless people in the southeast United States because of Hurricane Helene. My heart goes out to all of them.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day:

.

Thanks to all who help me get through terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days, including YOU!

  1. and it all turned out in the end. sorry you went through all of this to get to where you needed to be and to get things done. the good things about all of the machines not working right, is the odds are high that your machine will work perfectly.

  2. Some things I know about you, Ann, is that your daily human recipe includes being imaginative and resourceful, having access to your emotional and physical wellness/awareness , having an extremely well tested warning awareness, and – added to this outstanding recipe of resiliency, is a superb sense of humor and a large dose of daily gratitude. Hope today is so much less stressful than yesterday!♥️love you

  3. And still you were able to tell us about all of this, Ann, and that is good. I am very surprised Honda would put a time limit on “free” for a fix on a bad part they know is their fault. That’s not good business in my estimation. Anyway, on to a good weekend for all, I hope, as I get ready for a drive in our Honda today to the local Parade of Homes event for a little Lookie-Lou with my dear wife Karen.

  4. i am so sorry that you had such a a stressful, upsetting and scary day. I hope your car’s manufacturer pays for the repair, because why should it even matter if you do it a month late? It’s not as though the problem didn’t exist! That one is actually a people problem more than it is a machine problem.

I don’t know what Epic is (exactly) but it sounds horrible, epically horrible!

I think you had an epically horrible, epically no good, epically very bad day! And I hope today is wonderful.

  5. Sorry you had a bad day…hope today is better!

  6. I have been having this kind of day all too frequently lately, as well, Ann…but none so bad as yours. I decided to take my car to a local garage instead of dealing with getting someone to drive it to the dealership in Guadalajara and ended up paying them 1/3 of the cost of the repair as quoted by the dealership. As it turned out, the starter button is just one that plugs in!! A very simple process. They gave me the one they replaced. It plugged in much as you plug any appliance into the wall! I don’t know why all of these problems seem to congregate into one day or week or month, but maybe it is just inevitable. Just seems to happen more since I turned 70! So glad you have a husband who is a good cook. Your reward for surviving the day. What is that lovely dish?

    • My rewards for surviving the day also include this comment from you! The dish is chicken thighs, vegetables, and rice and beans.

  7. I’m afraid of days like that coming along. A few have been close – the day my car began having trouble getting going at a stop sign and it turned out I needed a part that cost under $500, which means that now I won’t be able to afford new tires which Discount Tire keeps telling me I need whenever I go in to get air in the tires. At 81, I just don’t have the physical resilience I once did to manage something like skidding off the road at about the same time my phone goes dead when I was hoping to reach home in time to use the bathroom. I can concoct horror stories like that all day long, which make me grateful that now there are so few days when I have to leave the house.

Your story is not unknown to me – I’ve noticed that too often one thing going wrong tends to lead to another, and these things can balloon all day on occasion. The first thing messes with your head and you can’t focus on the next thing as well as you should. That reminds me. Better plug my phone in.

this cartoon made me laugh….some days are like that! When I was little, when things were horrible, I would tell my Mother “l’m going to go live with “My Other Family”….& run out of the house….it was a small neighborhood in Tampa, so I never went far….but I felt better…

  9. This morning I was afraid our sump pump wouldn’t work because we’ve had more rain in twelve hours than we’ve had in three months. Fortunately I don’t think it’s even been needed and will work if it is. And it really is true that when it rains it pours.

  10. what a day! I’m sorry it was so awful!
